Water Saving Products Buyer's Guide
SAVINGS THAT MAKE YOU SING
If you like singing in the shower, we’ve got something that will be music to your ears. Showering accounts for 17% of indoor water use and installing one of the water saving showerheads from the ComEd Marketplace can make a big difference. But how do you choose the right products for your home?
You’ve come to the right place! This buyer’s guide will help you make your best, most informed decision. We’ll teach you about the benefits of water saving products and how to choose the product that fits your needs.
NEW & IMPROVED
Heating your water takes energy, so cutting down on unnecessary hot water usage can save you a considerable amount. In fact, according to the EPA, the average family can save 2,900 gallons of water a year by just replacing one showerhead. That equates to powering your home for 13 days, or saving more than $70 per year in energy and water utility costs. When you quickly replace your old showerhead with an efficient water saving product, you automatically save water, energy, and money.
Showerheads manufactured before 1992 use 2.5 times more water than efficient showerheads. One of the best features of water saving products is a ‘ShowerStart’. A ‘ShowerStart’ automatically reduces the water flow to a slow trickle to alert you when the water reaches bathing temperature (95°F). So while you brush your teeth, pick out your clothes, or go to the bathroom, the shower warms up and lets you know when it’s ready with the trickle. When you are ready to jump in, simply pull a tab and the water will flow like usual. Switching to a newer, more efficient water saving product will save you loads on water, which in turn helps you save energy and money, and protects the environment.
Every time you shower you also use energy to heat and deliver the water to your showerhead. By using a water saving product, you minimize the energy used for heating and delivering your water.
By switching to a water saving product, you save money on energy and water utilities. If your current showerhead was manufactured before 1992, switching to a water saving product could save you more than $260 a year if you have an electric water heater.
SELECTING THE RIGHT WATER SAVING PRODUCT
Selecting a water saving product is a surprisingly simple and cheap way to save big. Here are a few things to keep in mind while selecting your new and improved showerhead:
We offer a couple different types of water saving products to meet your needs. If you’re looking to replace your old showerhead completely, you can choose between the Evolve Single Function ShowerStart Showerhead or the single function Evolve Roadrunner Handheld with ShowerStart. Both reduce the flow to 1.5 gallons per minute without compromising performance. The difference with the Roadrunner Handheld is it can be removed from its holder to focus the spray on any part of your body.
If you’re not looking to replace your showerhead, but still want to save, we offer the showerhead adaptor, Evolve ShowerStart TSV. The showerhead adaptor is similar to the showerheads in that it automatically reduces the water flow to a trickle when the water reaches bathing temperature, but it does not change your showerhead’s normal flow.
EPA WaterSense Label
If you want a product that meets EPA’s criteria, look for the WaterSense label. Products with this label are at least 20% more efficient than your average showerhead without sacrificing performance; meaning you get to save without losing your water pressure. The WaterSense label certifies that the product satisfies the EPA’s standards when tested for efficiency and performance. To familiarize yourself with EPA’s WaterSense Label visit their webpage.
All three of the water saving products offered on the ComEd Marketplace meet the uniform plumbing codes and will attach to any shower arm with industry standard ½ inch fittings. Here’s a handy video we found that has helped many customers like yourself with their quick home installations for the Evolve ShowerStart TSV.
Please note that these water saving products are not anti-scald devices. Make sure to check the water temperature before you get in.
